about

A song written in response to the Conservative government's response to the Covid-19 crisis.

lyrics

They told us this new normal
Would be a great social leveller
That we’d all feel the pain
But we’d be in it together
And we clapped out the windows
For the heroes keeping us alive
While you drove to a castle in a beauty spot
Just to see if you could drive
You said stay at home
But not to your old man
You said stay alert
And don’t kill your nan

(Chorus)
It’s a global crisis with British petrol
Poured on the flames
How many people have died?
How many people have been fired?
Because of your games
And if you practised what you preach
Maybe we’d all understand
But the hypocrisy
In this nepotocracy
Has brought shame upon this land

If you’re struggling for clarity
Maybe I could help you out here
And explain all the rules that you’ve made
Without scrutiny or fear
If you’re in a well-paid job then that’s OK
You can work it from home
But if not then it’s redundancy for you
I hope you’re happy on the dole
And if you work in the arts
Well you can find something new
Something viable perhaps
We’ll do the least we can do

(Chorus)
